Kate Hanson is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS) who specializes in providing individual therapy for eating disorders, OCD, ADHD, and anxiety disorders. Kate enjoys working with clients ages 13 and up, having completed advanced training in pediatric and adult CBT-based modalities. She uses her professional experience in higher levels of care, dedication to continuing education, and years of individual practice to create a space tailored to her clients’ specific needs. Kate approaches her work from a weight- inclusive lens. In addition, she provides supervision services for associate licensed clinicians who have a professional interest in eating disorders or OCD.

My primary focus in treating eating disorders is helping you find peace and fulfillment in your relationship with food and your body. I utilize a weight-neutral approach in my work with clients to create long-lasting recovery.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Utilizing an evidence-based approach in the treatment of OCD called ERP (Exposure Response Prevention Therapy), we work to manage obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors in a safe, therapeutic environment.

Yes! I use a HIPAA compliant version of Zoom to offer telehealth therapy throughout the state of North Carolina.
I am in-network with Aetna (and the State Health Plan), Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS), and Duke Employee Cigna plan. In addition, I can offer super-bills for out-of-network reimbursement
Initial assessments (90 minutes) are $225 and individual therapy sessions (55 minutes) are $175. I do offer sliding scale options and can discuss these options.
While therapy focused on addressing eating disorders can vary by provider; typically many things are in common. In my approach, I focus on helping clients identifying eating disorder thoughts vs their self/internal values system, challenging eating disorder thoughts and behaviors, and work towards a more neutral, peaceful relationship with food.
I work with Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge-eating disorders. I also work with clients that experience disordered eating symptoms who feel they don’t meet any one specific diagnosis.
Yes! I believe in creating a cohesive, collaborative treatment team when treating an eating disorder. I typically work on a team with a dietitian, medication manager, and primary care provider. I prioritize engaging with team members to create and maintain a safe, supportive approach to eating disorder treatment. If you don’t have a treatment team, after our initial assessment, I often provide referrals to other providers in the community that specialize in your specific needs.
Yes! I practice from the belief that you “can’t see an eating disorder” and that people of all sizes can experience an eating disorder. I frequently integrate intuitive eating principles and use a non-diet approach in my work.
In my work with teenagers, I use a Family Based Treatment (FBT)-informed approach to encourage healing at home. I typically work with parents and teens together to prioritize addressing physical and mental health concerns as a family unit, with parents taking an active role in recovery. As a team, we work towards disrupting eating disorder behaviors and restoring physical health, with a long-term goal of your teen being able to eat independently with a long-term goal of supporting your teen in developing the skills to eat indepedently .
